Today is American Thanksgiving. It is a time when many of you pause, reflect, and take note of what you are grateful for. Although I’m Canadian (from Vancouver, Canada), I’m celebrating alongside my American friends today…literally.
I’ve just arrived in Denver, Colorado. I’m here with my husband for our friend, Tim’s wedding on the weekend. I’m grateful that I get to visit Denver for the first time, especially for this special occasion.
To kick off the long weekend, we will be having Thanksgiving dinner with his family. I’m grateful that they’ve included us and that we get to celebrate American Thanksgiving with them.
I’m also grateful for our American friend. This friendship has extended over three decades. Throughout the years, Tim has demonstrated loyalty and kindness by making an effort to keep in touch with me and my husband.
Even more than this, I’m grateful that Tim has found a life partner. He has gone through some rough times in former relationships, so to see him find someone who truly makes him happy, makes me happy.
When I consider what I’m most grateful for in life, family and friends always top my list. In these relationships, I find purpose and meaning. They’ve made me who I am today, and I am grateful for their love and support.
I hope that wherever you are, you will have a moment to pause, reflect, and contemplate all the blessings in your life and all the people who have been a blessing to you. And if you have a chance, tell them today how thankful you are for them.
